We sell both brands, so we have no reason to tell you one is bad. The useful thing we can tell you is what actually separates them, which is narrower than the packaging suggests, and where each one is the better buy. If you want the short version: Club 4 Paws is the value line with a very wide everyday range, Optimeal is the line with more specialist formulas and more wet variety. Neither is the premium one and the other the cheap one.

Same maker, same standards
Both brands come out of the same European manufacturing group and are produced under the same certification regime, with formulations following FEDIAF nutritional guidelines. That matters because it removes the question people usually worry about first, whether the cheaper brand is cutting corners on safety. It is not. The difference is in what each range is built to do.
It also means switching between them is easier than switching between unrelated brands. Still do it over seven to ten days, but the ingredient bases are close enough that most animals move across without trouble.
Where Club 4 Paws wins
Price per kilo, clearly, and it is not a small gap. If you are feeding a large dog or a multi cat household, the difference over a year is real money and the nutrition is adequate for a healthy adult animal.
Everyday variety is the other win. The wet range in particular is wide, with many single pouches at the cheapest price on our shelf, which matters because the practical barrier to feeding wet food daily is cost per pouch, not willingness.
Bag sizes go larger too, which is where the per kilo advantage really opens up. If you have the storage and will finish it inside about a month, the biggest bag is usually the cheapest way to feed.
Where Optimeal wins
Specialist formulas. When you look at our sterilised cat foods, the Optimeal ones carry the longest list of targeted claims: sterilised plus urinary plus weight plus digestion plus immunity in a single bag. If your cat has more than one thing going on, that consolidation is worth paying for.
Wet food variety and the multipacks. The three plus one packs are genuinely good value per pouch and come in enough flavours to keep a fussy cat interested, which is the usual reason people abandon wet feeding.
Hypoallergenic and novel protein options on the dog side are also stronger here, which matters for the sensitivity cases where the cheaper route has already failed.
How we would actually choose
Healthy adult, no conditions, feeding cost matters: Club 4 Paws, biggest bag you will finish in a month, plus the cheapest daily pouch you can find. The pouch does more for that animal than upgrading the dry bag would.
A cat with two or more things to manage, for example neutered and prone to urinary trouble and putting on weight: Optimeal, because one bag covers it instead of compromising.
A puppy or kitten: either, matched to breed size. The growth formulas on both sides are appropriate.
Something diagnosed by a vet: neither, until you have asked the vet. A retail formula does not treat disease, and buying the closest looking bag is how people delay real treatment.

Is Optimeal better quality than Club 4 Paws?
Not in the way people mean. Both come from the same manufacturer under the same standards. Optimeal has more specialist and multi claim formulas, Club 4 Paws is cheaper per kilo with a wider everyday range. For a healthy adult animal the practical difference is small.
Can I switch between the two brands?
Yes, and it is easier than switching between unrelated brands because the ingredient bases are close. Still take seven to ten days over it, and if stools loosen, hold at the current ratio for two extra days rather than pushing on.
Which is cheaper to feed over a year?
Club 4 Paws, and the gap widens with animal size and bag size. For a large dog or a multi cat household it is meaningful money. For one small cat the annual difference is smaller than most people expect, so choose on fit rather than price.
Do you recommend one over the other?
